LA has no beaches (except for Venice). All those beaches are in incorporated beach towns. Like Santa Monica.
In Santa Monica, the best two hotels are Shutters and Loew's.Best beach hotel in Los Angeles?
Malibu is nice (expensive though).
Santa Monica their is a few.
Hermosa (someone said before), its nice and close to LAX.
Venice is very crowded... always (in the summer).
Enjoy your vacation.
The only advice I have is if you stay in any hotel on Pacific Coast Highway, you're going to hear the traffic all night unless you're in the very back of the hotel.
