Has anyone ever stayed at the Castro Hotel or North Beach Hotel in Chinatown - North Beach in San Francisco?

Thinking of going to the States on holiday for 2 or 3 weeks and thinking about San Francisco. Btw, is San Francisco expensive? I mean eating out, cabs, nightlife (clubs/discos, pubs etc) I'd probably stick to the Chinatown - North Beach district. Thanks!Has anyone ever stayed at the Castro Hotel or North Beach Hotel in Chinatown - North Beach in San Francisco?
San Francisco is expensive to most people.

Restaurants abound and you don't have to spend a lot of money to eat well. Check out yelp.com for reviews and costs.

Drinking in bars is a bit more expensive than some other areas, drinks are in the $5-15 range depending on type of bar and your tastes.

A cab ride across the city is usually in the $20-25 range. Meter starts at $3.20.

As for hotels, try trip advisor. The best way to check out a hotel before you check in.
